OMEP is an international, non-governmental and non-profit organisation concerned with all aspects of Early Childhood Education and Care. OMEP Ireland is a registered charity dedicated to promoting the well-being of all children and their right to high quality early childhood education and care. The mission of OMEP Ireland is to raise awareness of the importance of early childhood experiences by supporting early years research and sharing knowledge about what we can do to improve children's lives.



At the OMEP Ireland AGM held on 25 May 2017, Dr Judith Butler was elected President. Judith is a lecturer in early years education in the School of Humanities at Cork Institute of Technology.


OMEP Ireland held its annual Research Conference at UCC on Saturday 20 May 2017. Keynote speakers were Dr Sheila Garrity, (UNESCO Child and Family Research Centre, NUIG), Sheila Dillon, (AIM Better Start National Service Co-ordinator) who spoke on The Better Start Access and Inclusion Model and Dr Mary O'Kane, who gave a presentation on the transition from preschool to primary school. A variety of other papers were presented to an enthusiastic audience, including a group of early childhood educators from Iceland.
