Election of OMEP Ireland’s New President

OMEP Ireland is delighted to announce the election of Dr Mary Moloney as President of OMEP Ireland

Dr Moloney is very well known and highly-respected, nationally and internationally in the field of early childhood care and education (ECCE). She is a researcher, author and lecturer in early childhood education and care at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick. Dr Mary Moloney is committed to promoting and supporting the rights of young children for the continual development of quality in ECCE. Her work is influenced by international perspectives and experience of early childhood education and care.

In 2018, Mary worked at the centre for the Study of Childcare Employment at the University of Berkeley, California, where she collaborated with Dr Marcy Whitebook and Dr Lea Austin to adapt the Supportive Environmental Quality Underlying Adult Learning (SEQUAL) for international use. Dr Moloney has undertaken study visits to a range of countries including Slovenia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, New Zealand, Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy. More recently, Mary worked as a volunteer with refugee children in Greece.

OMEP Ireland is privileged to have the innovative Dr Moloney as our new President and believe she is the ideal person to represent our national organisation on the international stage. Dr Moloney’s work to date has had powerful consequences for ECCE, with her work exerting a profound influence on theory and practice. Mary’s exhaustive research is driven by imperative theoretical questions and also by her strong commitment to make life as good as possible for our children.

All who meet Dr Moloney are profoundly influenced, and everyone she works with or interacts with feel her warm presence. We look forward to being led by Dr Moloney in 2021 and wish her all the success in the world.
