Keynote 1

Dr Maeve Hurley, MB, MRCGP, founder of Ag Eisteacht

Dr Maeve Hurley, a former GP, founded Ag Eisteacht, an Irish registered charity, in 2001. Maeve’s first-hand experience in general practice of the value of recognising relationships as a core component of improving outcomes led her to focus on a relationship-centred approach to practice. Her vision is to enhance practitioners’ capacity to be present and attuned and build responsive relationships with their clients , while being mindful of their own health, wellbeing and boundaries. She has presented talks and workshops at IFCA International Conference, the Enable Ireland Conference , Irish Attachment in Action and to the Royal College of Physicians Ireland. She also works on an annual basis with the UCC GP Registrar Scheme across their training. Ag Eisteacht is the only organisation in Ireland offering relationship centred training and the charity has delivered training to almost 3,000 frontline practitioners in health , education , justice , early years ,across Ireland to date. Last year, Ag Eisteacht’s ABLE (Adopt a relational approach, Build, Listen and Empower) training was commended was in the Irish Healthcare Awards 2018.

Lorraine Farrell  – National Aistear Co-ordinator

Lorraine has worked in Early Childhood for over 15 years in a variety of areas including practice, management, mentoring and more recently with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) as National Aistear Development Officer.

Her work currently involves developing the Aistear-Síolta Practice Guide, supporting practice in the birth – three years age group, supporting arts and STEM experiences for birth – six years and working on the draft re-development of the Primary School Curriculum to reflect continuity between provision of Early Learning and Care and the early years of primary school. She does this alongside managing her own early childhood service. Her current research interests includes among others, curriculum planning for babies and toddlers. Lorraine has a BA in Early Childhood Care and Education and an MA in Leadership and Advocacy in Early Childhood.
