Academic papers received will be sent for anonymous peer review, and authors will be notified of the results in due course. The decision of the Editor is final in any matter relating to the publication or non-publication of papers.

Non-academic papers (e.g. practical suggestions for activities to promote early learning or factual accounts of programmes or visits) may be submitted for publication in the From the Field section of the journal. These may be published at the discretion of the editorial committee.

Submission Guidelines

We are interested in publishing academic relating to the field of early childhood studies those relating to:

  • – Early years education and care
  • – Social studies
  • – Child health
  • – Child development
  • – Policy issues

An Leanbh Óg especially welcomes papers from practitioners, and those with an interest in relating theory to practice.

Papers submitted should meet the following criteria:

  • – The paper and the submission form (referenced below) should be submitted in pdf or docx format
  • – Papers should not exceed 3,000 to 5,000 words (shorter papers are acceptable)
  • – Avoid technical jargon: write in a clear and straightforward style
  • – Papers should be original, and the work of the author(s). They should not be under consideration by another journal and they should not have been published elsewhere.
  • – All works cited in the paper should be properly acknowledged; see referencing guidelines below. Where the paper is taken from a larger work (thesis or dissertation), it is not necessary to include all works consulted, only those actually cited in the paper submitted.
